Occasionally, I make a piece for a show or simply to learn a new technique; however, most of my work is custom made to client’s specifications. The process typically begins with the client describing what he or she is looking for, or perhaps bringing in a picture. I will then come up with a drawing of my proposal. I also have an extensive library of traditional furniture books which serve as a great resource in the design process. Once we have agreed upon a design, I will calculate the material cost and give an estimate for the labor. A deposit for the cost of the wood and 1/3 of the labor will hold a client’s spot on the waiting list. My shop is an open door and I invite every client to check in to see a piece’s progress and witness first hand what goes into the construction of custom furniture.
